I need some help, please. I shall spend some 16 days in Lima – Perù, after which I am planning to take a trip to Cuzco and Puno. Can someone please tell me if it is better to go all the way to Cuzco by bus instead of by plane ? I love to see the countryside, which you don’t if you fly ! I know it takes some 20 hours from Lima to Cuzco and I can manage this NO problems !!
I did travel, by bus, in Brasil (26 hours) and loved it ! Thanks for your kind help.

Hello Lorenzo. Not necesarily better (very subjective matter) but yes, you can travel to Cuzco by bus if you enjoy the view (which besides being espectacular is also a great way to get in touch with the not-too-touristic locations, meet the locals, enjoy their food, etc). As a matter of fact, lots of schools in Lima (and other cities) visit Cusco by bus every end of the year as a graduation trip. I will recommend you choose a good bus company, you can read more about that in our article about reliable and safest bus companies in Peru. Good Luck, I know you will like it and thanks for your comment.

Are the flights to Cusco really that late all the time?

Incaito March 4, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Sometimes, it is really because of the weather. It is so unpredictable that sometimes flights departing Lima towards Cusco have to turn back because of the weather, even though hours before it was fine for landing. Just take it easy, always carry something to entertained yourself and you should be ok. Airlines do their best to move tourists as quickly as possible. Have fun.
